2. Lee HazlewoodLove And Other Crimes
This was recorded in 1968 in Paris and with everything going on at that time, I just love the fact that Lee Hazelwood went over there and was in the studio with these guys from The Wrecking Crew; Hal Blaine on drums and James Burton, who is one of my favourite guitar players (and I love his voice on this); he played with Ricky Nelson and with Elvis Presley all through the 70s. Actually some great footage popped up on YouTube last year of them recording songs from this album in the studio in Paris…
This record probably had a big influence on the Jesus And Mary Chain. The band even tried to get Hazlewood to sing on one of their albums; I heard this story from both sides, from their manager at the time and from him. Apparently they were going to buy him a business class ticket from the U.S. to visit Sweden, but he would only fly first class and it was going to cost thousands. He said that they wanted to fly him there "on the back of a plane and they put me in this hotel and I hadn’t heard of it". He definitely liked to live the high life.
