Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

1. Die KreuzenDie Kreuzen

Thurston Moore once said that, in 1984, Die Kreuzen were the greatest hardcore band on the planet. To me, this record sounds more black metal than anything current- and it was released 30 years ago. Listen to ‘All White’ and you’ll see what I mean. I’ve been listening to this record since it came out and I still think about them everyday.

I was always a metalhead but by 1985 I was way more into punk and hardcore. I lost interest in the genre for a long time, although there were a couple of death metal bands I kind of liked. Around 2004 I started looking back into it, started playing in metal bands again. I was blown away by how the genre had changed in my absence. I still listen to metal primarily but I’m starting to regain interest in other types of music again. I’m mostly into metal and electronic music these days.
