People will hate me for this but I don’t give a fuck. This is the best of Ozzy/Black Sabbath. Brad Gillis, et al just KILL it. Yeah, I know he’s the guy from Night Ranger. My favorite all-analogue, live recording; Ramones’ It’s Alive is a close runner-up, but I have to go with the madman. At the peak of his drug and alcohol abuse after Randy’s death, Ozzy’s performance is transcendental. When he yells "YYYYEEEEEAAAAHHHH" after singing "’Cause smokin’ and trippin’ is all that you do" it’s the most pure expression of life-wise emotion ever documented. If all you ever learned about music was this record, you would be king of the world right this fucking second. Satanic and bursting, this record is all about the undeniable power of MIDRANGE. I’ll never forget being a kid and translating the cryptic runes that frame the photo. It’s an elegy to Randy.
