Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13.

Taraf De Haidouks – Band Of Gypsies When I was on tour in Europe with Fantômas Mike Patton turned me onto this group, and I loved it right away just because of the energy. I mean, it’s these old guys, like 60 plus, but they have the fire and the stamina to play this music that’s really fast and high energy and I was just fascinated by the patterns inside the melodies – it moved me – and I bought probably three or four other recordings that they had right off. You get a lot of these weird recommendations when you tour with Mike; when I toured with Fantômas Trevor Dunn would play some of his favourites too and you’d pick up what they were listening to and you get really inspired to search for other styles of music.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Lord Spikeheart, Tom Ravenscroft
