Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

Warning: This text contains sentiments that Beatles haters may find annoying. Again, The Beatles were always on at home. I now realise that they are a manifestation of unseen forces. They are solid and liquid and every stage in between. Every morsel of sound has a story. Despite the veneer of relentless hooks, their world is one that can take a well-spent lifetime to unlock. They cover such a vast array of feelings, textures and juxtapositions and the doors flung open for me the first time I heard ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’. However I thought I’d choose Ram rather than a Beatles record because I’ve been obsessed with it in recent years. It’s a brilliant enigma. The walrus was Paul.
