Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. HTRKWork (Work Work)

I bought a Blast First Compilation for a pound with ‘HA’ from Marry Me Tonight on it. I got so excited for Work, (Work, Work), I listened on my work computer at Warner and was completely enthralled. I’d been doing Baraclough by then, so I could make music that maybe sounded like this – but nothing sounded like this. It was just perfect. It really gave me a kick up the arse to work on my stuff and make it better, in a really constructive way.

I posted on Twitter when I saw them at The Garage, and they messaged to say they loved Baraclough and to hang out where they were next in Europe. They came over in 2012 and I met Jonnine. We hit it off, and they asked me to support them at Corsica Studios around 2013.

Now, when I have demos, the people that I send them to are Phillip [Marshall], Alan who runs Entr’acte, and Jonnine. Jonnine always gives phenomenal feedback, and she gave me some really good life advice last year when I needed it.
