Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. The DoorsThe Doors

Sex on legs, wasn’t it? His voice and him, as the vision, and the music for fuck’s sake, that’s sex itself. There was music there that took you into another world that felt more real to you and more relevant than the world and culture you were trying to resist. All of this music, including The Doors, offered that. We were trying to do that with TG, and all the way through in our music we’ve resisted what was popular at the time because it didn’t speak for us, it didn’t express how we felt. Or we were excited by new equipment, innovation was always very important to me, I don’t like standing still. I don’t see the point. Not got enough time.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Mick Hucknall, Laibach, Emilíana Torrini, Robyn Hitchcock
