Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. Lucifer Rising

FB: I’m really into Kenneth Anger as a film-maker. All the imagery and how saturated his colours are. Scorpio Rising is full of biker imagery. Anger was really into girl groups too, which is the main genre I collect. I collect all the 50s and 60s girl groups and pop.

Here, the soundtrack is quite prog, really. Great synthesisers. What else can you say, other than it’s really atmospheric? There’s ‘Part V’ which I love, and a great soundscape at about eight minutes in. Bobby Beausoleil was associated with the Manson cult and actually replaced Jimmy Page for the soundtrack. Anger was waiting for Page to deliver the music but it never appeared.
