Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

Patrice Rushen is just extraordinary, she plays every instrument, she sings, she does everything – if I remember right she’s a great keyboardist too. She did a track called ‘Play’ which is absolutely genius, but ‘Forget Me Not’ is just undeniable. It’s another one where you hear the first notes and you’re away into it, to this day. It’s everywhere, it’s on adverts and everything, it doesn’t go away, but it never loses that shine. I do a lot of funk and disco parties that we call the Mobile Disco which I started off for fun in Australia in 2003 and have been doing ever since, and it’s always an absolute joy to see how much people still jam to a record like this. It doesn’t matter how old it is, how many times you’ve heard it, if you’re there in the club and it kicks in, it’s just undeniable.
