Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

4. OmVariations On A Theme

I miss this sound today and find coming back to it really refreshing, especially as an album outside of the electronic music world to listen to. Again, like Sonic Youth, it’s not a part of any kind of rock & roll circus. I miss a lot of true rock influence in a lot of music today in general. The rock business is still there today but the progression isn’t especially, so the music is there, but nothing seems to be pushing forward like this album does. OM conserve the kind of energy that I really like in this form of music, again as with the aggression on Fuck Buttons. Just thinking about my list, it’s maybe a little too rock-oriented but I always like to listen to this music to provide an alternative to electronic music.
