5. Tony Tuff
1983 was my first exposure to ragamuffin dancehall. I used to ride in the minibuses to school and the minibuses had big sound systems in those days. The sound would be high, very loud, always jumping, and they used to play all kinds of music on the road. Tony Tuff and Junjo Lawes produced some of the nicest records. Penthouse Studio is a place where Junjo Lawes used to work. In those days, Junjo just returned to Jamaica from London, fresh! He used to come across from Jungle [community] and be on Slipe Road. Tony Tuff was at Penthouse too. We all used to par [patois for ‘hang out’] on Slipe Road.
