Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. ParkingPortraits

This is one of my favourite records right now, which I found about within the last six months from a guy who’s making a documentary about various elements of the Louisville scene. It’s a powerful, beautiful, strong, diverse record, recorded in Electrical Audio in Chicago, a place dear to my heart, and the strings in End Of An Ear in Louisville, where I made my new record. I love that it’s continuing this amazing tradition of a Chicago to Louisville pipeline, a pipeline that’s been so vital to music here since the 1980s, one not necessarily led, but definitely guided in many ways, by [Steve] Albini. He had such a great mind and was such a great person to work with, and worked with so many Louisville bands. I don’t know if you know this, but I also married Albini to his wife. I find it thrilling that music this great is coming out of Louisville now.
