Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. SapatL&N b/w Payne Hollow Stomp

Many of these choices are the public and accessible offerings of musical entities whose legacies are built on much of their performance work. Sapat is a Louisville collective that has had legions of temporary and honorary participants over the years – there’s been over 150, and every Sapat performance is kind of an event unto itself. You don’t know who’s going to be in there, but it’s going to involve a group of people who can each individually take you on your own musical journey through genres, and through Louisville. At the moment, I think an oboist from the Louisville Orchestra is a regular member, as is this incredible singer, Dane Waters. Many of our biggest musical heroes in town have been a part of Sapat at one point or another. Every time Sapat play, even here on these two songs, they throw down a portable hole and ask us all to dive in and rollick, in an epic, elevated dynamic melodrama.
