9. Grace RogersMad Dogs

We have a great old time and traditional scene here in Louisville, and Grace is definitely a part of that, although she leans toward sometimes an intellectualisation, or at least a very thoughtful approach to traditional styles. This album’s been a dear companion to me since it came out. It’s another album recorded at End Of An Ear, and released on the Sophomore Lounge label by Ryan Davis, whose music is also receiving a fair amount of attention on both sides of the Atlantic, which is great. Grace also plays banjo on the new Bonnie “Prince” Billy album. When I listen to this record, I sink into a very happy space. It makes me happy about the future, so that’s something miraculous.
