Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13. Black DiceBeaches & Canyons

When this came around I was so shocked. When I first heard it I wasn’t even sure I liked it. I either didn’t like it and didn’t dismiss it, or was just so intrigued that I had to try and work out why it was different. Something definitely worked there.

I was listening to this the other night – my wife hadn’t heard it so we put it on. Her reaction was quite similar to mine when I first heard it. For something to confuse you in such a way that you’re moved by it, and then it becomes something you love, is a very powerful thing for any artist to be able to do. I hope my wife listens to it again, but maybe at the moment she might rather listen to Scott 4.
