13. Maxi PriestYou’re Safe
At that time in my life, I fancied myself as a reggae singer. And Maxi Priest was the predominately British reggae singer that everybody wanted to be like. I would not listen to him at all. I met him once, and he was an asshole. Then I met him again, and he was still an asshole. That really pissed me off. Undeniably though, just because someone is an asshole, that does not make the music shit. So, I have to put my adult head on, this album was before he had that major hit in the 90s, ‘Close To You’, because every song on that album, and the way he delivers his vocals is incredible. You can’t deny someone’s talent and if you listen to our songs like ‘Pressure’ [from Babylon], the vocal influence from Maxi is definitely there.
