Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Nat King ColeThe Magic Of Christmas

As a vocalist myself, Nat King Cole’s vocals are just like silk. I can appreciate different tones. I’m not the type of person who only likes rock music. Listening to this album at Christmas just makes me feel warm. A lot of times I will put on his other albums throughout the year as well. It has this really warming feeling, and if I’m honest, whether it’s Christmas or not, I will play this album around the house. He went through a lot of shit too. This ain’t rebel music, but you know he had to break a lot of barriers to make this music that we listen to. The main reason I think he did the Christmas album was to make some money! Which ain’t ever easy. I mean a lot of the songs are re-recorded, you know? But like I said, there’s a real warmth in all of these tracks. Christmas and Nat King Cole go hand in hand, and it’s always a great time for me.
