Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. Arthur DoyleAlabama Feeling

This record is unreal. It’s fire. I’m a fan of extremes in music, and the human behind the instrument being heard. There’s a lot of music now called ‘jazz’ that for me isn’t really jazz, it’s more like minimalist pop – nothing wrong with that – but this is jazz. This moves, it cuts shapes, and it tells you to shut the fuck up, sit down and take note. I think Arthur Doyle was one of those people – I don’t think he’s really appreciated enough for that, and this record needs to be reissued desperately.
