The Perfect Beat: Arthur Baker's Baker's Dozen

Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. SantanaSantana

Santana was probably one of the best live bands I ever saw. They were incredible, it was just amazing music. They weren’t particularly political, but their very being was political, you know? Just seeing them on the stage. If you look at Woodstock, this album was released the same year, and they played Woodstock. It was an album I played all the way through college. I went to college in 74, and a lot of my friends were Puerto Ricans from New York. This was one of my friend Apache’s favourite albums. Again, it has three amazing songs ‘Jingo’, ‘Evil Ways’, and ‘Soul Sacrifice’. Santana is such an amazing guitarist, it was kind of radical.
