Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

I was disheartened, confused and vulnerable. Broken down by the world and a danger, mostly to myself. Whatever it took to free myself of my own pitiful mien, to rid myself of wretched misery: the soundtrack was Nick Cave’s Tender Pray. I love the little detail of ‘The Mercy Seat’, where he sings "I am not afraid to die…" but concludes "I’m afraid I told a lie". I love the pure magic of The Bad Seeds, and of course not forgetting the fabulous Birthday Party skulking about in the corners.
