5. Pan SonicKatodivaihe

When I first heard Pan Sonic they were in a Richard Devine mix and I thought it was nuts. For some reason, I immediately assumed they were a Japanese group. It turned out they were Finnish, and I spent the next few years trying to sound like Pan Sonic and, arguably, I’ve released a couple of records that are just piss poor imitations. They were a huge part in me finding my current sound; the next step after Autechre.

There’s one tune on the album called ‘Cutter’ which is really heavy, and it was the first of theirs I had knowingly heard. Their early stuff is very straightforward, minimal techno and the later stuff is more abrasive, but with a touch of ambience. There’s a very broad spectrum of electronic music in their catalogue, and they were a big influence on me.
