Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

I used to do this show called the Old Grey Whistle Test during the punk era, and that part of the history of the programme has been rather ignored. So a couple of years ago, it was agreed that I would put a compilation together of the best clips of the best punk and new wave bits that we could find and get the rights to, to be shown on BBC Four.

That video of Sid doing ‘My Way’ – I think we finished off with it – it’s just superb. It’s so very punk in every way. Very sad, what happened to Sid, and at least he left us that. I just smile, every time I see it or hear it.
My birthday is on April the 1st, and one of my best friends has the same birthday. She’s married to one of Primal Scream and they were playing the London Palladium one April the 1st, a couple of years ago. And we got the Royal Box, which we thought was very funny. So we were sat in the Royal Box, and Primal Scream played ‘My Way’ as their end music when they came off stage, and it just seemed so fitting, to hear Sid Vicious, when you’re in the Royal Box at the London Palladium, it just seemed so perfect.
