Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Tyrannosaurus RexUnicorn / A Beard of Stars

Yes, I’ve managed to sneak in two albums here…A Beard of Stars is seen to be the crossover album sonically to what came next for T. Rex, but I love both. They’re such dreamscapes – you might have noticed I like dreamscapes from my choices! I just love albums that create worlds that you can escape to that are very unlike the material world.

I particularly love ‘Dove’ on A Beard Of Stars . You can just dive into it – it’s like a meditation. And on Unicorn, ‘The Misty Coast Of Albany’ is my absolute favourite because it contains the lyric “weeping willow woman / Ladled on the arm / Of the misty coast of Albany”. How beautiful is that? She’s so full of sorrow her tears ladle. There’s nothing like Marc Bolan’s lyrical talent.
