Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. New OrderPower, Corruption And Lies

I knew this at the time it came out, but I only learnt to love it in the last couple of years. My son, Jimmy, got massively into New Order. We’d been at the Bluedot festival at Jodrell Bank, this was just before the pandemic, late summer 2019, and it was one of the last gigs I saw before lockdown. I remember being at Jodrell Bank, the big telescope was there all lit up, the band were on stage and they played ‘Your Silent Face’. You know when you just go back to a moment when you hear a song? I was there with my brother, Jimmy, my nephew George, and I remember it really vividly. It’s that type of music, it takes you to slightly different places, all the images flashing up on the screen and Bernard playing his recorder. There are moments you remember, and that was one of them. All through the lockdowns, I’d listen to this album.
