Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Jerry Murad’s HarmonicatsHarmonica Rhapsody

What was Roslaw Szaybo thinking? He’s the cover designer of this 1974 reissue. With this cover I feel that this album should be a collection of nefarious folk songs, Wicker Man-style. Little, strange songs with arcane tales of human and animal duality. Or maybe a soundtrack to a forgotten 1970s children’s TV show; The Cat Woman Of Crimbles Cave would be a suitable title.

Unfortunately the music is totally shite. Hideous. To my ears the harmonica (along with the accordion) are the worst sounding instruments imaginable. The harmonica is only permitted in Disney films, a live action film featuring two dogs who go on an adventure. Lost on the road, they find an unlikely friend in the form of a cat who eventually shows them the way home.
