10. Herbie HancockFuture Shock

I think if you listen to my albums where there’s a more rhythmic approach, Future Shock along with Planet Rock gave me a kind of blueprint. I was never particularly interested in Hancock’s more jazz-leaning output – I never got so into jazz at all, though there were always people like Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock who had a musical backbone in jazz music, but had radically renewed ideas by blending them all together into a new fusion of things. This was the soundtrack of the mid-80s for us.
