GM: Now, I’ve always been into country music. The only thing I’ve educated Edwyn in is country music.

EC: She did!

GM: I used to go to this Silk Cut – sponsored by fags, that shows the times – country music festival at Wembley every year. And tucked into the early part of the day there one year was Townes Van Zandt on his own, and we both saw him. I’m pretty sure that that led us to then watching that [1976 country music documentary] Heartworn Highways, then you got that Guy Clark album, and you absolutely loved it. In the late 80s?

EC: Yes. It just sounded great. I love country now.
