13. Prince BusterShe Was A Rough Rider
This album has influenced me a lot in terms of how I mix drums and stuff; not on all albums but I love how the drums are driven in the red and the snares sound like that sound that Einstürzende Neubauten tried to get for years [laughs]. The 90s generation of Berlin has to diss the 80s generation and vice versa from time to time… if you lived in Berlin you’d understand. Bring it down a notch or two. But seriously, why I keep coming back to Jamaican music is because imagine the 60s and this tiny music scene that created something so powerful that took over the world, later on, with reggae of course. This is why people who think in already "existing markets" are not leading us out of the crisis. People can keep bashing pirates and destroying internet freedoms, but the problem is far greater. I have met so many musicians over the past years who have given up because they simply didn’t see a way forward anymore. Not creatively but basically everything else. If you are out there, DO NOT GIVE UP, travel back in time and look at how others have dealt with situations which seemed just impossible to get out of. It’s a battle and it needs to be fought. Create!
