4. Dark Side Of The Spoon
The song ‘Bad Blood’ was nominated at the 2000 Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance, although they’d lose out to Black Sabbath.
Dark Side Of The Spoon was really drugged-out. Just to survive that, I feel like it needs a good ranking. The sheer tenacity and determination and luck of actually surviving the record. I had to put it up there on effort alone.
I like, for instance, that Dark Side and Filth Pig are similar in that they’re not metal records whatsoever. I really enjoyed getting out from under that umbrella and going into unfamiliar territory. That’s what kind of kept me going, because I certainly wasn’t in a very healthy state of mind or body.
I enjoyed doing different things on this record to really branch out from The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste and Psalm 69. Those two were also very drug-infused records, but Mind and Psalm were more fuelled by psychedelic drugs going around the studio at that point, as opposed to the heroin and coke hamster wheel that we were on for Dark Side and Filth Pig bit different from previous Ministry records.
