Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. T. Rex

Having said that Lulu was my first love – she was my first girlfriend in my tiny boy brain – the first band that really meant anything to me was T. Rex. They were the first band I saw live. I remember the support act, they were The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver. And they were as boring as fuck, to me and to all the girls that were there to scream at Marc.

Electric Warrior was quite possibly the first album I ever bought. I earned a few bob pocket money; a paper round; a bit of blackberry picking. Months or a year would pass before getting another record. But The Slider was my first disappointing record. Like when you think, ‘Right, I’ve had enough now’. The first indication that you’re going, ‘Let’s Move On’.
