6. SuicideAmerican Supreme
NK: I think this one is so interesting because we bought it the day it came out and just didn’t understand it at all.
AM: It sat on our shelf for years. Then we played Primavera in 2002 and they were playing and it was fantastic. We got to meet them afterwards and they were super nice. All that said, even between a fantastic live show and a great first album we still couldn’t get into the record.
NK: We’re huge Suicide fans and what I really love about these guys is that they really don’t give a fuck at all. They never have. They’ve always had this super visceral energy. I never watched anybody just continually throw their microphone onto the ground as often as Alan Vega and my god that last solo record of his, IT? That song ‘DTM’ is one of the best songs ever. We revisited this record when we were starting work on This Behaviour. This record was so ahead of its time.
AM: Yeah, it was way smarter than we were. Then once we figured it out and formed a relationship with it, we must have played this so many times. It was ridiculous. We got really obsessive and we must have played it non-stop for a month.
