Grunge comes of age

The grandfathers of grunge, Mudhoney, celebrate the 20th birthday of their debut EP, by reissuing the ground breaking Superfuzz Bigmuff although their label Sub Pop narrowly failed to persuade them to rename it Superduperfuzz Biggermuff.

The original - which kicks Old Misery Guts' Nevermind into a cocked hat - has been fortified with the inclusion of balls to the wall singles, 'Touch Me I'm Sick', 'You Got It (Keep It Out Of My Face)' and 'Halloween' as well as a veritable truck full of rarities and live tracks and is released on May 19.

Liner note writer for the album Jay Hinman recalled the birth of the scene saying: "They called it grunge, but to me it was amped-up, clear-the-room, ramalama rock that exploded like Nagasaki live, and it was about as joyous and as fun a noise as anyone’d heard in years."

The label, which is celebrating a two decade birthday itself, is also releasing a new studio album by the band, 'The Lucky Ones'. It is their eighth to date and was recorded in a break-neck three and a half days by Tucker Martine who was responsible for recording their previous album 'Under A Billion Suns'.

As if this weren't enough, the band have also announced a live date at London's Forum on July 31st. Despite all of this rock-shaped greatness, rumours continue to circulate that Green River (a pre-Mudhoney band that also featured members of Pearl Jam) will also reform to celebrate the milestone date.
