The hip hop trio will perform with the London Symphony Orchestra at London's Royal Albert Hall this July

Cypress Hill are set to play a one-off show in collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra this summer.

Taking place at London's Royal Albert Hall on July 10, the unlikely link-up will see the two acts perform Cypress Hill's seminal album Black Sunday in full, as well as other material from across their back-catalogue. The gig is particularly special since it makes an almost 30-year-old joke from The Simpsons a reality. In the Season 7 episode 'Homerpalooza', Cypress Hill, guest-starring as themselves, are depicted accidentally booking a gig with the London Symphony Orchestra while under the influence.

In a statement, Cypress Hill said: "We are thrilled to be performing with the London Symphony Orchestra in such a prestigious venue as the Royal Albert Hall. It's a dream come true, a collaboration only The Simpsons could have predicted."

Kathryn McDowell DBE, the London Symphony Orchestra's Managing Director, added: "After years of social media teasing it, many fans may have started to believe it would only be a pipe dream – but the LSO is delighted to finally be joining Cypress Hill on stage and in person, and look forward to creating an unforgettable musical moment! Many thanks to the creators of The Simpsons for the idea and to AEG Artisitc and PolyArts for making it all happen."

Tickets for the gig will go on sale at 10am GMT on Wednesday (March 27) here.
