Portishead Reveal 'Roseland NYC Live' Physical Reissue

The group's 1998 live album will be newly issued in CD and limited vinyl editions

Portishead are giving their 1998 live album Roseland NYC Live a full physical reissue.

Following on from a digital-only reissue of the record, which arrived in November of last year, the remastered live album will now be issued in digipak CD and limited red vinyl editions. Much like November's digital reissue, the updated physical release will take in an expanded tracklist, adding performances of 'Undenied' and 'Numb', as well as the full-length version of 'Western Eyes', to the record.

The digipak CD will come with a 12-page booklet, as well as a recreation of the guest backstage sticky pass used at the 1997 concert, which saw Portishead play New York's Roseland Ballroom alongside a 28-piece orchestra. The limited red vinyl set will come with gatefold sleeve, a double-sided fold out poster and that same sticky pass recreation. There's also a limited 10-inch vinyl companion release available only through the group's online store from May 31, which features the live recordings of the tracks 'Sour Times' and 'Roads'.

Portishead's Adrian Utley, who has overseen the full production of the reissue, said in a statement: "I've always held the memory of this show which we played before our second album was released. This was the first time an audience had heard the new tunes and it was put together to launch that album. Great care was taken over the orchestrations and look of the filming [for the accompanying concert film].

"It preceded a year long world tour for us, recorded and filmed in the legendary Roseland Ballroom in New York, which unfortunately doesn't exist anymore. This reissue has three tracks that were not released before and we've remastered all of them."

The announcement of the physical reissue follows on from Portishead's Beth Gibbons detailing her debut solo LP, Lives Outgrown, which is out in May.

Universal will release Roseland NYC Live on April 26, 2024.
