The performance is set to be released in full for the first time via Impulse!

Alice Coltrane's 1971 live performance at New York's Carnegie Hall is to be released in full for the first time.

Out in March, Alice Coltrane - The Carnegie Hall Concert features the uninterrupted recording from her first performance as band leader at the famed venue. She was joined for the performance by Kumar Kramer (harmonium), Tulsi Reynolds (tamboura), Pharoah Sanders and Archie Shepp (saxophone), Jimmy Garrison and Cecil McBee (bass), and Ed Blackwell and Clifford Jarvis (drums).

One track performed at the concert, 'Africa', was released as Carnegie Hall '71 by the label Hi Hat in 2018, but this release from Impulse! marks the first time the full set has been made publicly available. You can listen to 'Shiva-Loka' from the recording above.

Impulse! will release Alice Coltrane - The Carnegie Hall Concert on March 22, 2024.
