Batu Releases New Standalone Track, ‘Other Means’

Out on his A Long Strange Dream imprint, it kickstarts a new series of one-off club tracks set to be released through 2024

Batu, the DJ and producer behind key UK techno label Timedance, has released a new standalone single, ‘Other Means’.

It marks the first release of the year on A Long Strange Dream, the label that Batu launched last year as an outlet for his own productions, and follows on from 2023 EPs For Spirits and half speed. ‘Other Means’, which you can listen to just below, marks the first in a series of one-off club cuts by Batu which he will release on A Long Strange Dream over the course of 2024.

Writing on social media, the DJ and producer revealed that the track was originally written during studio sessions for last year’s For Spirits EP, but ultimately didn’t make it onto that release.

"With this one, I was trying to marry a dark, heads-down club weight with flourishes which are more delicate, organic and trippy," the artist, real name Omar McCutcheon, said. "I’m really interested in finding new ways of merging aesthetics from the more psychedelic end of techno and bassy sounds. I love exploring this world and finding new pockets which feel fresh."

‘Other Means’ is out now on A Long Strange Dream.
