Kraftwerk – Autobahn

This was the point where I discovered that electronics could be beautiful and moving. And when you think about it, ‘Autobahn’ is one whole side of that album. I can't say that title without hearing that little riff. I saw them play live a few years ago and they were a masterpiece of minimalism. The whole thing was like, keyboards set across the stage with people controlling them, but you had no idea what was actually happening or not happening. They were doing those songs from Tour de France at the time, and the only acknowledgement they made of that was that they had little cycling hats on! So they had a sense of humor as well, which I like, and you can't have modern dance music without that connection [to them].
