Vince Clarke has shared details of his debut solo album, Songs Of Silence.

Arriving off the back of a decades-long career as one-half of Erasure, the 10-track album was recorded at Clarke's home studio in New York, with work on it beginning as a distraction from the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020. He set two rules for himself while working on the record: that the sounds featured would solely be generated from his Eurorack modular synthesiser, and that each track would be based around one note, maintaining a single key throughout. "I could have gone on forever, I could have not stopped," Clarke said of working on Songs Of Silence. "I was enjoying the process so much and wasn't thinking about anyone else hearing it. But hearing it develop in my studio, in my head, learning new tricks – that's been the best thing about this. I was in a state of shock, actually, when Mute said they wanted to release this album."

Mute will release Songs Of Silence on November 17, 2023.
