Already named Best Live Act by DJ Mag, Overmono's debut LP delivers on the promise of their early EPs, finds Laviea Thomas

Following a string of successful club-house EPs and several single releases later, Overmono have finally shared their debut album. A twelve-track compilation of looping vocal samples, warped production and warm beats, Good Lies is a reflection of the duo’s critically acclaimed career and doesn’t disappoint as their first full-length project. Cultivating a space in the electronic scene with their addictive two-step beats and mechanical synths, the Welsh brother duo have, over a course of seven years, made a name for themselves as one of the most essential dance projects within the electronic scene.

Opening their brand-new album with the gently melancholic ‘Feelings Plain’, this track is a subtle introduction into what this project has to offer and is swiftly followed by statement-piece ‘Arla Fearn.’ Throughout Good Lies, Overmono have produced an album with a euphoric and kaleidoscopic appeal. Blurring the line between the past and present day, the duo submerge you into a world of nostalgia through old-school garage-house tendencies and into a modern-day twist as they toy on today’s electronic scene.

Recorded during the interval between their touring periods, Good Lies is an earnest product of every emotion, every mood, from every high to every low. Finally sharing their first full-length project into the world, this album is more than just an accumulation of songs, as it carefully reflects what the duo have been working towards for the past seven years. Finalising the project at their home studios, throughout the album the duo bring the surrealness of their live shows into a tranquil selection of atmospheric feel-good tunes.

One of many album standouts, but a particular favourite is penultimate song ‘So U Kno’. Coated in hypnotic arrangements and periodic vocals, this track is an enchanting release that you could easily have on repeat. As you make your way through the tracklist, title-track ‘Good Lies’ also stands out as a lucid cut with immaculate vibes and ‘Cold Blooded’ a more commercially driven offering. Good Lies is the perfect soundtrack to your summer and is an intricately crafted product of work featuring vocal samples from Tirzah and Slowthai.

Concluding on ‘Calling Out’ this heavily-dubbed track welcomes back garage undertones with hints of gentle reggae tendencies. Throughout the album, Overmono prove that they aren’t afraid to pay homage to the past whilst simultaneously driving their own authentic spin on today's club scene. Officially debuting their well-anticipated full–length album, Good Lies further emphasises that Overmono are a key asset to today’s electronic scene.
