Pink Floyd – Meddle

I’m really into them at the moment. I mean, Dark Side Of The Moon! I’ve been properly listening to it again. Wow! How did they do that? But this is my favourite, and the songs I can’t tire of are ‘Fearless’ and ‘Echoes’. ‘Fearless’ has such a British folk pop feel to it and the folk element is enormous in Pink Floyd. It’s in ‘Wish You Were Here’ too, of course, which Mr Gilmour himself says is a folk song. Not to be too self-referential, but a lot of what I do I’ve realised later on in life is informed by opera, and Puccini and Rossini’s music is really driven by folk melodies. If you like it or not, the place you’re brought up in gets into your bones, and so does the music that came with it. It lives with you.
