Felt – Forever Breathes the Lonely Word

I love Felt. Used to listen to Felt with one of my best friends, who was a massive fan, and I’ve been listening to this record again recently. I’ve also seen Lawrence about a lot of late in London, and he’s having a bit of a renaissance, but the guy’s a genius, we all know that. What strikes me about lots of Felt compositions – and Lawrence will definitely hate what I’m saying here – but the riffs are intoxicating. They’re almost like jangly Byrds-like guitar playing, whether he likes it or not! Judging from the cover, he might be someone who hates the Byrds, to be honest! But all those really jumpy riffs suggest the doom and gloom of the Black Country and these almost Dickensian stories – I love them. I might be talking shit now, I love them anyway!
