Shirley Collins Details New Album, ‘Archangel Hill’

It's her third full-length effort for Domino

Shirley Collins will release a new album this May.

Spanning 13 tracks, Archangel Hill is Collins’ third full-length record for Domino. It’s made up of renditions of songs specially chosen by the folk singer – most from traditional sources, and some by favourite writers of hers. You can watch a video for the lead cut ‘High And Away’ above.

The album is named in honour of Collins’ stepfather who called Mount Caburn, a landmark close to her home in Lewes, Archangel Hill. Speaking about this, she said in a statement: "Whenever I walk Mount Caburn, I give a silent greeting in memory of my stepfather Bill and his horses. I’ve picked sloes there in autumn, sat watching sheep and the occasional chalk hill blue butterfly in summer, but Bill had ridden over it many times in the 1920s, walking horses from Bishopstone to the Lewes races."

Domino will release Archangel Hill on May 26, 2023.
