Bonjay – ‘Ingenue’ from Lush Life

Alanna Stuart, the singer of Bonjay, sings on ‘Pump’ on the new record. ‘Ingenue’ was on Bonjay’s last record, and I fucking love this song. This is a radio hit. It should be certified platinum. Her vocals are just so wild on it. There's a really intense synth solo, which I think Thom Gill is doing. I find the emotion of the song very intense, and it’s another song that sounds a little bit scary. I love Alanna's dynamics in her voice, how she can be very soft and then she just puts the pedal to the metal.

There's a video on YouTube, of U.S. Girls performing at the Polaris Prize awards [in 2018], doing ‘Pearly Gates’ a cappella. Geordie Gordon, Dorothea Paas, Cass Richards, Basia Bulat, Lavender Bruisers and Alanna Stuart are all in it as a choir. The amount of vocal talent in one video is amazing.
