Various Artists – Think I’m Going Weird: Original Artefacts From The British Psychedelic Scene 1966-68

I like the idea of collecting things together, and we are in a great age of compilations. Cherry Red do it better than anyone, on two sub labels, Esoteric and Grapefruit, which this one is out on. A compilation can mean as much as an album by someone you really love. They teach you. This one from last year is brilliant. As a record collector, I would never be able to buy all these singles on this compilation, they would be so expensive, and I wouldn’t know half of them; they bring you a whole new world. What could be better than getting this record at this point in time? Some singles have never been released like ‘Jabberwock’ by Boeing Duveen And The Beautiful Soup, I think it was Tony Visconti’s first credit as a producer, one of his earliest anyway, it has such amazing production. The liner notes are great as well, it’s like a paperback book inside, it’s a great modern way of looking at the past.
