Kelela Details New Album, ‘Raven’

The US artist's first album in more than five years is out in February

Kelela has shared details of the long-awaited follow-up to her 2017 album Take Me Apart.

Spanning 15 tracks, details of Raven arrive off the back of the release of recent singles ‘Washed Away’ and ‘Happy Ending’, which serve as the album’s opening tracks. Ambient music duo OCA (AKA Yo Van Lenz and Florian T M Zeisig) join LSDXOXO as Raven‘s lead producers, while Bambii contributes additional production across the record. To mark the album’s announcement, Kelela has shared a new track, ‘On The Run’, which is co-produced by the artist herself with Yo Van Lenz, Kaytranada and Bambii. You can listen to the new cut above.

In a statement about the new album, Kelela said: "I started this process from the feeling of isolation and alienation I’ve always had as a Black femme in dance music, despite its Black origins. Raven is my first breath taken in the dark, an affirmation of Black femme perspective in the midst of systemic erasure and the sound of our vulnerability turned to power.

Warp Records will release Raven on February 10, 2023.
