Animal Collective have produced the score for new film The Inspection.

The band's soundtrack includes new, original compositions by themselves, with contributions from North Carolina singer-songwriter Indigo De Souza. You can listen to the first taste of the band's score, a track called 'Crucible' above.

"I wanted us to conjure the feeling of being strong but also showing vulnerability," Animal Collective's Avey Tare said in a statement. "The desire to ask a community or a loved one to have your back and support you and the expectation that it will happen."

Produced by A24 – the company behind films such as Uncut Gems and MidsommarThe Inspection follows the story of a young, Black, gay man, called Ellis French, who is ostracised from his family and subsequently joins the Marines. It's based on the true story of Elegance Bratton, who wrote and directed the film. It will be released to select cinemas in the US on November 18, with a wider release following in December.

In a statement, Bratton said: "We were very inspired by the music of our composers Animal Collective. We wanted to create the right rhythms to blur the line between what French thinks is real and what is really happening. So those fantasy sequences could serve as the evolution of French's inner life. In essence, we wanted to create a sense of the stir craziness of the monotony of boot camp, juxtaposed with the massive transformation Ellis French undergoes. Animal Collective provides the perfect backdrop to shrink and expand the time according to the emotion."

A24 Music will release The Inspection (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on November 18, 2022.
