Movietone – The Blossom Filled Streets

I can’t remember how I came across this record. It’s another one where it didn’t sound like anything else I was listening to at the time, and it kind of surprised me how much I liked it. It’s got a bit of a jazzy quality, which is not a genre I listen to much. I think what got through to me was the gentle intimacy of these pieces. Each song seems to be about a mood or a quiet observation of ordinary life. The lyrics find real beauty in the surrounding world and convey it in a way that’s really moving for the listener. There’s a particular track on this record, the title track, that just undoes me every time. I have to stop what I’m doing and just listen. It’s just one repeated melodic line, but it’s so propulsive and seductive. Perfect music.
