b>The Trypes – The Music for Neighbours

I guess what I love about this album, and it’s a similar feeling to most of the albums on this list, is that to my ears it doesn’t sound like music made for an external audience, it sounds as though the members of this band were making music for each other, and for the pure enjoyment of creating these sounds. The opening track ‘(From The) Morning Glories’ is one of my all-time favourite songs. The propelling drums, the simple chord progression and the doubled vocals combined with the lyrics that are searching and desiring for something more. It still hits me every time I listen to it. It's definitely something that I have aspired to, wanting a song of mine to have that kind of emotional impact. And it’s not just another song about heartache, but about wanting something more to happen. The search for adventure. The rest of the album too is so rich. It's folky, psychedelic Velvet Underground-influenced sounding music. A real triumph.
