Lawrence English Scores New Adam Curtis Series On Russia

'Russia 1985-1999: TraumaZone' debuted on the BBC today

Lawrence English has produced the soundtrack for documentary maker Adam Curtis’ latest BBC series.

Russia 1985-1999: TraumaZone charts the story of the nation’s move from Soviet communism to democracy across seven episodes. It debuted via the BBC today (October 13), with English set to follow it up with the full soundtrack’s release later this month. In a statement, he said that Curtis’ "methods of approaching visual edits, sound design and structure, as a filmmaker, is something I have drawn greatly from."

He continued: "The drafts of the films I initially saw were yet to be finalised and only recently I learned the title of the series. This resonated strongly with me, as over the past three years I have been somewhat pre-occupied with The Zone, captured directly in albums like Field Recordings From The Zone and also my duet with Merzbow, Eternal Stalker, not to mention Approach, which by default dwells in a very relational terrain."

Room40 will release Themes And Atmospheres For Adam Curtis’s Russia 1985-1999 TraumaZone on October 28, 2022.
