The new record is the final part of a trilogy that started with 2017's 'Peasant'

Richard Dawson will release a new album before the end of the year.

Titled The Ruby Cord, the seven-track record is billed as the final part of a trilogy of albums that has included 2017's Peasant and 2019's 2020. The new album, press materials explain, explores a "sci-fi world where human society has collapsed and morphed into something distinctly less solid."

The album's opening track, 'The Hermit', spans 40 minutes, and an accompanying video for the full track has been put together by director James Hankins. The short film, for which you can watch a trailer above, will be premiered at several cinemas and art spaces across the UK with Q&A sessions after each screening, and will offer fans the first chance to hear music from The Ruby Cord before its release. Find the full list of screenings, as well as ticket links for each event, here.

Like previous albums Peasant and 2020, the new record was recorded by Dawson together with Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs' Sam Grant at Newcastle-upon-Tyne's Blank Studios. He was also joined by regular collaborators Rhodri Davies, Angharad Davies and Andrew Cheetham for the recording of the album.

In a statement about the futuristic concept behind The Ruby Cord, Richard Dawson said: "So many of us are moving into these fantasy worlds. Whether it's actual constructed virtual realities, computer worlds, or retreating into even more fantastical realms... conspiracy theories, nationalism, amateur football punditry. People construct their own world because this one is so flawed.

Domino will release The Ruby Cord on November 18, 2022.
